PORT ST. LUCIE --- The Fort Myers Miracle set two Mets records for most runs and hits by an opponent in a 19-4 blowout at Tradition Field in the series opener as the team improved its division lead to three games.
Mark Dolenc was 5-for-6 with three doubles and six RBI while Evan Bigley, in just his second game in Advanced-A, was 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI. Every Miracle hitter scored at least one run and one hit.
The previous St. Lucie Mets records were 18 runs and 22 hits, compared to Thursday's 19 tallies and 24 knocks put up by the Miracle.
Tyler Robertson improved to 2-0 as he lowered his ERA to 4.75 from 5+. He gave up five hits in five and two-thirds, allowing two runs. He walked two and struck out three. Alex Burnett logged one and one-third of hitless relief with one walk and three strikeouts. Santos Arias gave up two runs in the ninth inning. Arias, pitching with a double-digit lead, gave up four hits and struck out one.
Every Mets pitcher gave up at least four earned runs except for Matias Alvarez, who threw the ninth inning and gave up one. Scott Shaw (1-3) suffered the loss after giving up eight hits in five and one-third, with four earned runs and three strikeouts. Combined, the line for four Mets relievers was 3.2 IP, 16 H, 15 R (all earned), 3 BB, and 3 SO.
The Miracle had eight doubles (Chris Cates, Jair Fernandez, Danny Berg, Dolenc 3, Ben Revere, Deibinson Romero) and went 14-for-27 with runners in scoring position.
Multihit games for Miracle batters: Revere (3-for-5, two runs, double, RBI), Romero (2-for-4, two runs, double, two RBI), Bigley, Berg (3-for-6, three runs, double, RBI), Dolenc, Fernandez (2-for-6, run, double, RBI), and Cates (2-for-5, run, double, RBI).
The runs and hits are the most by the Miracle this season, coming just one game after suffering its worst loss, 11-2, to the Sarasota Reds.
Mike McCardell starts Friday's second game of the series at 7:00 p.m. in Port St. Lucie.
