Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (4-4) lost 1-0 to the New Jersey Jackals (4-4) at Lawrence-Dumont Staduim on Thursday night.

Wingnuts' starter Ryan Hinson set a single-game franchise mark with 13 strikeouts, but took a tough-luck loss.

The game's only run came in the top of the second inning. Jackals' third baseman Nick Giarraputo lined a double to right-center leading off. After Hinson struck out Yasanberty Arbelo and Danny Rams back-to-back, Jose Cuevas doubled home Giarraputo to give New Jersey a 1-0 advantage.

Hinson had multiple strikeouts in four innings, and struck out the side in the second and seventh. The lefty scattered four hits over eight innings of work, did not issue a walk, and finished at just 91 pitches. The 13 strikeouts break Chad Sherman's previous team record set on July 13th, 2011 versus the Shreveport-Bossier Captains. Hinson faced 29 batters and did not face a three-ball count.

Jackals' starter Craig Heyer earned the win, keeping the Wingnuts' scoreless for seven innings. Heyer allowed five hits, walked none, and struck out three.

Daniel Bennett struck out two during a scoreless top of the ninth for Wichita.

Keith Cantwell threw a perfect bottom of the ninth to earn the save for New Jersey.

Wingnuts' shortstop Ryan Khoury finished with three hits.

The Wingnuts and Jackals play game two of their three-game series Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Junior Guerra faces New Jersey left-hander Craig Bennigson.
