LANCASTER, Calif. - Sam Hilliard recorded two of his three hits in a six-run second inning for the JetHawks, as they defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for the second straight night, 11-9, on Tuesday night at The Hangar.

The JetHawks sent 12 batters to the plate in their big second inning and knocked Rancho Cucamonga starter Mitchell White out of the game. White had not allowed a run in nine innings this season and had not surrendered an earned run in his 31 career innings as a professional.

Hilliard's three singles in the contest bumped his league-leading batting average up to .459. He also leads the California League in on-base and slugging percentage.

The JetHawks opened the scoring in the six-run second inning on a two-run single by Mylz Jones, who has five runs batted in on the series after his three-run homer on Monday night.

Rancho Cucamonga cut the 6-0 lead in half with three runs in the third, but the JetHawks answered with two in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth. Garrett Hampson delivered an RBI single and Wes Rogers hit an RBI double off the top of the wall in left-center field.

Luke Raley and Drew Jackson each went deep for the Quakes in the sixth to make it 10-6. Raley was 4-for-4 with a walk in the game.

Yonathan Daza made it 11-6 JetHawks with an RBI single in the seventh, but the Quakes answered back with a pair in the eighth.

Rancho Cucamonga scored an unearned run off Salvador Justo in the ninth, but Justo struck out Ariel Sandoval to end the game, who was representing the tying run. The save for Justo was the first of the season for the JetHawks.

Colin Welmon (2-0) earned the win for Lancaster despite allowing five runs in five innings. He struck out four. White (1-1) suffered the loss for Rancho Cucamonga. He allowed six runs (three earned) in his 1.2 innings of work.

Game two of the four-game series is Tuesday night at The Hangar. Right-hander Colin Welmon (1-0) will start for Lancaster against right-hander Mitchell White (1-0). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
