Woodbridge, VA - The Hillcats notched just one hit a blowout loss to the Potomac Nationals, 14-0. Potomac starter RHP Nathan Karns went six scoreless setting the stage for the Nationals fourth shutout of the season. The HIllcats sent just two batters over the minimum as they were limited to their lowest hit total of the season.

The Nationals set the tone early with five runs in the bottom of the first. A walk and four singles surrounding a groundout led to one run scoring and the bases being loaded for Michael Taylor. Taylor hit a grand slam over the left field wall for his first home run of the season. It was also the first home run given up by RHP Aaron Northcraft this year.

Northcraft settled down after the grand slam, retiring 10 batters in a row until a Kevin Keyes broke up that streak in the fourth inning. The Nationals would not score again until the sixth inning.

After striking out the first batter in the sixth, Northcraft surrendered three straight hits including a two-run single to Stephen King, which knocked Northcraft out of the game. RHP Caleb Brewer entered in relief. He allowed the inherited runner to score before getting out of the inning. Potomac led 8-0

Brewer would come back out in the seventh, but did not finish the frame. All nine Potomac batters came to the plate in the seventh. Brewer retired one batter, walked two and gave up two hits before exiting. LHP Matt Chaffee came in with two runners on after three runs had already scored.Chaffee's first batter Kevin Keyes hit a three-run homer to left-center field. The next two batters grounded out to complete the inning. It was 14-0 Nationals.

The Hillcats only hit belonged to Matt Weaver, and it came in the third inning off of Karns. Karns (5-2) allowed one hit over six scoreless frames and earned the win. Northcraft (8-6) suffered the loss after allowing a season-high eight runs on eight hits.
