Hillcats Drop Game 10-4 to Nationals

Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

The Lynchburg Hillcats struggle in their first game back from their two-week road trip, losing 10-4 to the Fredericksburg Nationals.

The Hillcats (18-25) were doomed by a five run seventh that saw the Nationals (27-15) put the game out of reach.

Fredericksburg struck first as James Wood would drive home the opening run of the ballgame in the first on a fielder's choice to first base that scored Jacob Young. Will Frizzell would extend the lead to two with a solo shot, his sixth of the year.

The Hillcats would cut the lead in half in the second on a Will Bartlett RBI double into the right field gap to score Dayan Frias. However, Frizzell would drive home a run of his own in the third on a single to score J.T. Arruda.

Lynchburg would tie things up in the fifth on an Isaiah Greene double into the left field corner. Both Richard Paz and Yordys Valdes would come home to score. However, the Hillcats would struggle over the next few innings.

Yeury Gervacio would take over on the mound in the sixth, when he would give up six runs over less than two innings of work, putting the game essentially out of reach. For Gervacio, that was his first loss of the season.

Both teams would tack on a run in the ninth, but for the Hillcats it was too little too late.

Game two of the series is set for Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Bank of the James Stadium.
