
High Schoolers Receive Billie Jean King Character Awards from Hamiln Family Foundation, Philadekphia

(Villanova, Pa) - Kimmy Sanna and Griffin Clark received the 2013 Billie Jean King Character Awards, presented by the Hamlin Family Foundation and the Philadelphia Freedoms of Mylan World TeamTennis, in a ceremony Sunday at the Freedoms match against the Texas Wild at The Pavilion at Villanova University.
The $1,000 scholarships, which honor youth between the ages of 10 and 18 who are active in sports and have displayed outstanding character, were presented to Sanna and Clark by Mylan WTT co-founder Billie Jean King and Clay Hamlin, founder of the Hamlin Family Foundation and CITRS, Inc., a character education company.
Sanna, 16, of Swarthmore, attends The Agnes Irwin School, where she competes on the golf team and the Junior Varsity tennis team. She has helped organize service days at her school and this past school year she was instrumental in the planning and organization of Sophomore Day, as well as named the junior representative on the Prom Committee by the Dean of Students.
Clark, 15, of Lititz, is an Honor Roll student, played #2 singles and #1 doubles on the Manheim Township High School tennis team and was a member of the school's freshman basketball team. Clark recently completed his first year at Manheim Township H.S. He previously attended Shanghai American School where he was the MVP of his tennis team at and the 2012 Arkansas state singles champion in the Boys' 16 division.
"Kimmy and Griffin are wonderful examples of the quality of the youth in this area and the Freedoms and the Hamlin Family Foundation are proud to have them in our community," King said. "As student athletes they have demonstrated outstanding athletic achievements, and as leaders in their schools they have shown great character and they both truly reflect the type of young person this award was deigned to recognize."
