Hickory Crawdads News Release

For the second straight night, Hickory fell to a deluge of Rome Braves home runs, dropping a 14-10 game at L.P. Frans Stadium on Sunday.

The Braves used a season-high 15 hits to score their most runs in a game this season, including three long balls from Michael Fisher, Cody Johnson and Benji Johnson one night after the Braves socked five homers in a game one victory.

Hickory (26-25) actually took the first lead of the game, jumping ahead 2-0 in the first inning. The Crawdads would hold a lead as late as the sixth inning, ahead at that time 5-4.

But Rome (17-32) used a five-run sixth to take the lead for good, en route to 10 total runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The Braves scored multiple runs in three separate frames, including four runs in the second and eighth and the five scores in the sixth.

Hickory finished with 10 runs on 14 hits but the offensive firepower just couldn't match Rome's production, which came from throughout its lineup. Fisher finished 4-5 with four RBIs and two runs, Benji Johnson went 2-4 with three RBIs and three runs, Cole Miles finished 3-6 with a pair of runs and RBIs and Jason Heyward also had three hits, driving in two.

For the Crawdads, Austin McClune scored twice on three hits. Jose De Los Santos, Erik Huber and Marcus Davis each also scored twice for Hickory, while Danny Bomback went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and Andrew Walker drove in a pair.

The difference came in extra-base hits, as Rome notched eight (3 HR, 1 3B, 4 2B) and Hickory had only two (2 2B).

Reliever Edgar Osuna earned the win for Rome, improving to 1-1. Osuna allowed two runs in four innings of relief, striking out seven after Rome starter Eric Barrett left the game before the fifth inning.

Ronald Uviedo took the loss for Hickory, dropping to 1-1. Uviedo recorded just two outs in the decisive sixth inning, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits in surrendering the Crawdad's 5-4 lead.

The teams meet in game three of the series Monday at 6:30 p.m., celebrating Memorial Day with the Salute to Veterans courtesy of Bradley Ingels with Armstrong Ford.

RHP Bradley Clapp (0-4, 3.80 ERA) will face LHP Chad Rodgers (1-6, 3.47).
