Halifax, N.S. - The Wanderers have made another significant squad move as they continue to build for the 2020 Canadian Premier League season, by signing Halifax-born Scott Firth to a new contract.

The team is continuing to invest in youth with the midfielder, who was only 17 when he signed with the Wanderers last year, while still in high school.

Firth equipped himself well in his first professional season, making eight appearances for the Wanderers, for a total of 290 minutes on the pitch.

"It feels really good that the club has the confidence in me for a second year and I'm glad to get started next season with the team," Firth said.

The 18-year-old is a player Stephen Hart has known about for years, having kept tabs on him even before being Wanderers coach, while Firth was emerging as a prospect with local team Suburban as well as team Nova Scotia.

"Scott is young and improving all the time and he is fantastic in the dressing room and he has shown a willingness to learn," Hart said.

Composure on the ball and a tidy range of passing previously earned Firth trials with Portuguese teams Sporting and Benfica, as well as Toronto FC.

They're technical skills he's continued to work on since being a part of the Wanderers set up.

"When he was introduced into games he did not look out of place and his pass percentage was extremely high so he's done quite well," Hart said.

Many who know Firth also know about his phenomenal ability to juggle the ball, once keeping it in the air for 45 minutes and a staggering 5,200 touches!

"I've said it before but it's a dream come true being able to play in front of the Halifax fans, stepping onto the field was amazing last season and I hope for the same energy this year," Firth said.

Firth is the latest signing to be confirmed by the Wanderers alongside fellow Haligonian Christian Oxner and Trinidad and Tobago duo Akeem Garcia and Andre Rampersad.

University prospects Cory Bent and Jake Ruby will also have their chance to fight for places on Stephen Hart's squad after being chosen in the U SPORTS draft.
