Daytona Beach Thunder News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Daytona Beach Thunder owners Kevin McDonald, Zack McDonald and Antone Smothers announced that Tom Herter, who aided in the Washington Redskins' 1982 Super Bowl victory, has joined the ownership group of the World Indoor Football League franchise.

Herter was a free safety replacement player for the Redskins that kept the team active during a 57-day players strike that reduced the 16-game regular schedule to nine with an extended playoff format. The Redskins went out to defeat Miami 27-17 Super Bowl XVII and Herter received a championship ring in appreciation.

After football, Herter became involved with Pak Mail Centers of America, Inc., where he developed 210 franchise stores from 1993 to 1997 from Florida to the Carolinas. In 1997, Herter bought the Master Franchise rights for Texas where 32 stores were developed . Pak Mail has 410 stores across the nation.

He also founded "The Solid Rock All Pro Sports Team" with 11 National Football League alumni that delivers motivational messages to youth.

"Tom has been successful both on and off the field," said Zack McDonald, who, like Herter, is a former United States Marine. "That's what we need to make this franchise and league set the standards in indoor football, the experience and business savvy of someone like Tom."

In addition to the Thunder, Herter will aid the WIFL's expansion efforts for the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

The Thunder kicks off its second season February 11, 2006 against the Augusta Spartans in the inaugural game of the WIFL.
