Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT- With the holidays approaching, now more than ever is the time to think of others who are less fortunate. The TEENS IN ACTION of the Academy of the Holy Family out of Baltic, CT has teamed up with their hometown Connecticut Defenders for their "Fill-A-Bus" event at Dodd Stadium starting Saturday, November 15th at 7am.

"We are truly excited to partner up for an event like this to help families out in our local community, especially with the tough economic times we all have to deal with," said Defenders General Manager Charlie Dowd. "Everyone knows Dodd Stadium as a gathering place for family entertainment so it's a perfect focal point for an event like this."

TEENS IN ACTION is asking the local community to come together to support the less fortunate during the holidays and bring non-perishable items to fill a school bus. The food will then be transformed into Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets for local families. The event will run for a 36 hour time period starting on Saturday, November 15th at 7am and run through Sunday at 7pm. The volunteers from TEENS IN ACTION will be camping out overnight to insure they give everyone an opportunity to donate.

Each year the Academy of the Holy Family helps families in the community through the holidays with food baskets. Last year they were able to help over 150 families but this year, it seems the number has risen due to the economic issues facing our country today.

"TEENS IN ACTION realizes that with today's troubled economy, more families need assistance through the holiday season," said Teens in Action Faculty Supervisor Roxanne Mansfield. "It is our hope that the community will be as generous as they have been in the past and help the Connecticut Defenders and TEENS IN ACTION give families the help they need this year."

The Defenders and TEENS IN ACTION teamed up earlier this season to hold a fundraiser to benefit a newly created Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship was made in honor of the Thomas Girard Family from Baltic who had lost their home prior to the school year due to fire, and then lost two family members in a tragic drowning accident at Patchaug Park last summer.
