Help Blitz Hunger

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield Blitz, the Partnership Food Bank, and Bakersfield Cingular Wireless stores are teaming up to fight hunger in Kern County by launching the "Help Blitz Hunger" campaign.

"We are honored that and Cingular Wireless are holding this food drive," said Community Action Partnership of Kern's Executive Director Fred A Drew. "The success of community action is due wholly because of community support just like this. When the community joins together, everyone benefits. And who doesn't like football?" The Partnership Food Bank, the third largest food bank in the state, is seeking food to assist with feeding hungry families, especially those with children who are normally fed through school food programs during the school year.

Drop-off boxes will be placed in several Cingular Wireless stores throughout Bakersfield to accept donations of non-perishable food items during the week of July 9-14, leading up to the Blitz game against Everett on Saturday, July 14th. In exchange for food donations, patrons will receive a free ticket to the game against the Hawks. In addition, fans may bring food donations to the game on Saturday, July 14th and receive a voucher for a $5 End Zone ticket.

"We think this is a great way to help people in Bakersfield and Kern County," said Andrew Watkins, President/GM, Bakersfield Blitz. "As an organization, were committed to doing as much as we can to help to local community. Working with the Partnership Food Bank, Bakersfield Cingular Wireless stores has been great."
