Harrisburg Heat News Release

The Heat went 2-0 in a pair of important home games this past weekend to extend the club's current winning streak to three games and improve to 9-9 on the season. Harrisburg is now just a half game out of second place in the MISL's Eastern Conference.

On Saturday night at the Farm Show, composure and discipline carried the Heat to a 10-8 win over the Dallas Sidekicks in a penalty-filled contest. The Sidekicks were hit for 37 minutes in penalties in the game - the fifth-highest single-game total in league history. Those 37 minutes were more than the 33 accumulated by the entire Heat team all season long. The Heat fought back from a 4-2 halftime deficit to gain control in a third quarter in which Harrisburg outscored Dallas 8-2. Ato Leone's two-point power play goal at 11:48 served as the game-winner, and Marco Lopez (2pg, 2 assists) and David Bascome (2 2pgs) each scored 4 points for the Heat in the win. Doug Petras made 14 saves for the win in net.

But Petras saved his best performance of the weekend for the final home game of his career: the 30-year old goalkeeper, who will be sworn into the Lower Paxton Township Police Department on January 6, saved 10 of the 11 shots he faced in net, collaborating with a stellar defensive effort in an 11-2 Harrisburg win over the archrival Baltimore Blast on Sunday night. The game marked only the third time in Heat history (and the second time in Petras' career) that the team has held an opponent to two or fewer points in a game.

Genoni Martinez gave Harrisburg all the scoring it needed with the first goal of the game, a 3pg at 3:20 of the second quarter. Martinez added another trey and Horacio Robledo's fourth-quarter 2pg gave the Heat some breathing room before Kevin Burk iced the win with an empty-net 3pg with a minute remaining. Harrisburg is now 3-2 against Baltimore this year; the two teams will not meet again until March 1 in Baltimore.

THIS WEEK FOR THE HEAT:
Tuesday, December 31, Kansas City Comets, Kemper Arena, 7:05 p.m. EST
Saturday, January 4 , Kansas City Comets, Farm Show, 7:35 p.m.

The Heat will spend New Year's Eve on the road, taking on the volatile Kansas City Comets at Kemper Arena. Game time is 7:05 p.m. EST. And the two teams will do it all over again on Saturday, January 4, this time at the Farm Show Arena (7:35 p.m. kickoff).

The Comets defeated the Heat 15-10 in the clubs' only previous meeting of the season, at the Farm Show on November 10. Harrisburg led 6-0 in the first quarter of that contest, but the Comets went on a 12-0 run through the third and fourth quarters to put the game out of reach.

Harrisburg is 11-24 all-time against the Comets (formerly the Attack), including a 4-13 record in Kansas City (both Municipal Auditorium and Kemper Arena).

THIS WEEK'S ITINERARY:
Thursday, January 2, Practice, Farm Show Arena , 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Friday, January 3, Practice, Farm Show Arena, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
