Harrisburg Heat News Release

Fresh from a full week off, the Harrisburg Heat now faces two important home games as the second half of the season hits full gear.

Saturday, December 28, Dallas Sidekicks, Farm Show, 7:35 p.m. Sunday, December 29, Baltimore Blast, Farm Show, 6:05 p.m.

This Saturday, December 28, the Dallas Sidekicks visit the Farm Show Arena for a 7:35 kickoff. Harrisburg is 1-2 against Dallas so far this year: the club has lost twice in Dallas (16-10 on October 12 and 12-6 on November 24) and defeated the Sidekicks 18-14 in Harrisburg on November 2. Entering the week, Dallas has won three straight but remains stuck in last place in the Western Conference with a 6-11 record.

The Heat and Blast will continue a thrilling '02-03 season series on Sunday. Harrisburg is 2-2 against archrival Baltimore this year. The first meeting between the two teams (a 9-8 Heat win on October 26) was decided by Horacio Robledo's late sixth-attacker goal, and the last three Heat-Blast clashes have gone into overtime: a 14-12 Heat win on November 9 at the Farm Show, a 10-8 Baltimore win on November 30 at the Farm Show, and most recently a 12-10 Blast victory on December 13 at Baltimore Arena.

Following this weekend, the Heat will play eleven of its final 18 games on the road.

ODDS AND ENDS:

- Even after a week off, the Heat joins the Dallas Sidekicks as the only teams in the league to feature four players (David Bascome, Genoni Martinez, Marco Lopez, and Marco Coria) among the MISL's top twenty scorers.

- Martinez remains the league's highest-scoring defender with 37 points (tied for 8th overall). He is also third in the league with 35 blocks.

- The Heat made Messiah College midfielder Hayden Woodworth the first overall selection in last Tuesday's annual MISL Amateur Draft. Woodworth, a two-time All-American and key cog in Messiah's two Division III titles (2000 and 2002), joined goalkeeper Brian Rowland (University of Maryland - Baltimore County), forward Byron Carmichael (Marshall), midfielder Bryan Hopper (Pittsburgh), and midfielder/forward Troy Sauer (Messiah) in the Heat's 2002 draft class.

- Also last Tuesday, the Heat waived forward Renato Pereira. The 26-year old Pereira, acquired from the San Diego Sockers in a preseason trade, scored 4 goals and 8 points in 8 games for Harrisburg this season. The move leaves the Heat with 17 players on its active roster.

- Saturday night's game will mark the last time that Dallas Sidekicks legend Tatu visits the Farm Show Arena. Tatu, who has already announced his retirement following this season, is currently tied for sixth in the league with 39 points, and has scored 849 goals and assisted on 714 others in his remarkable career; both those totals rank second in indoor soccer history.
