Harrisburg Heat News Release

Harrisburg went 0-2 over the weekend to drop to 4-6 on the year. The club's current losing streak has now reached three games.

On Friday in Cleveland, the Heat surrendered 23 points (the highest point total given up by an MISL team this year) in a 23-12 loss to the Force. Matt Tanzini scored a pair of 2pgs for four points in the loss. Keeper Doug Petras saved 9 of 18 shots in falling to 3-3 on the year. Cleveland used a 10-0 run in the heart of the game to assume a 12-2 lead before the Heat scored six points within 56 seconds in the third quarter, sparking hopes of a comeback. But Force midfielder John Ball buried a 3pg with just three seconds left in the period to put Cleveland firmly in control once again.

The Heat's defense righted itself on Sunday in Dallas, but the offense faltered and managed only three goals in a 12-6 loss to the Sidekicks. David Bascome (two) and Genoni Martinez accounted for all of Harrisburg's scoring. Raul Salas remained winless on the season, taking the loss in net on a six-save performance.

ODDS AND ENDS:

With a fourth-quarter assist in Cleveland on Friday night, Heat defender Genoni Martinez recorded his 400th MISL point. Martinez scored 382 points in four previous seasons in the league (from 1996-2000) with the Wichita Wings, Philadelphia KiXX, and Detroit Rockers. The 27-year old currently ranks as the second-highest scoring defender in the MISL, behind San Diego's Alejandro Cardenas (22 points in 12 games). He is also tied for fourth in the league with 22 blocked shots.

In the Heat's two games this past weekend, Martinez cranked up a total of 30 shots: 19 on Friday and 11 on Sunday. He has accounted for a team-leading 77 of Harrisburg's 322 shots, or 24% of Harrisburg shots on net.
