Heat Inks Five New Offer Sheets

September 13, 2002 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Harrisburg Heat News Release

Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Heat today announced that five more players have signed offer sheets with the club: veteran midfielders Mike Henning and Marco Coria, veteran defender Genoni Martinez, rookie defender Gene Braxton, and rookie midfielder Kevin Burk. Terms of the offer sheets were not disclosed. Forward Ato Leone, acquired on September 4 from the Kansas City Comets, has also agreed to terms on an offer sheet, the team announced.

Henning, 28, will enter his fifth year with Harrisburg since being acquired from Baltimore prior to the '98-99 season. Injuries limited the versatile Henning to 34 games in 2001-02, but he still managed to set a career-high with 29 blocks. The graduate of Randolph Macon College has appeared in 213 MISL games, scoring 68 goals and 191 points.

Harrisburg acquired the rights to the 32-year old Coria and the 27-year old Martinez from the Dallas Sidekicks on Monday. Both played for new Heat coach Erich Geyer with the Monterrey La Raza from 1994-97 and in 2000, helping that club to three championships. Coria, who spent the 2001 WISL season with the Sidekicks, also scored 13 goals and 32 points in 37 games for the Wichita Wings from 1996-98, and Martinez totaled 382 points and 171 blocks in 137 games with the Wings, Philadelphia KiXX, and Detroit Rockers from 1996-2000.

Burk, 23, will be playing his first indoor season with the Heat. The 6-0, 170-pound midfielder spent the summer of 2002 with the Greenville Lions of the outdoor D3 League.

The '02-03 campaign will also be the first indoors for the 23-year old Braxton. A native of Detroit, MI, Braxton (5-8, 160 pounds) played for the South Jersey Barons of the D3 League this past summer.

With these latest signings, the Heat roster features 15 players, including goalkeepers Doug Petras and Raul Salas; defenders Braxton, Martinez, Martin Hernandez, Chris Morman, Francisco Rodriguez, and Matt Tanzini; midfielders Jake Atkin, Burk, Henning and Coria; and forwards David Barbosa, David Bascome, and Leone.

Harrisburg will train tomorrow morning at Sports City on Linglestown Road from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. and take Sunday off. Next week's training schedule, as well as a full schedule of game times and directions for next weekend's preseason tournament in Baltimore, will be distributed Monday.
