Anthony Peluso and Sergey Andronov helped the Peoria Rivermen claim an early 2-1 lead before the Abbotsford Heat scored five straight goals in a 6-2 win on Saturday night at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre. The Rivermen continue their opening road trip on Wednesday in Chicago before returning to Peoria on Friday.
The two teams traded goals early in the first period with Peluso's unassisted tally just 1:53 into the opening period. His second of the year came on a snap shot from inside the left circle past the glove of Danny Taylor. The lead lasted just 1:35 as Lance Bouma evened the score from Ben Street and T.J. Brodie.
Andronov scored his first career AHL goal to give the Rivermen the lead once again at the 9:10 mark of the first. Andronov fired a shot from a tough angle and Taylor's glove and into the net. David Shields and Jaden Schwartz were credit with the assists.
Ben Walter scored his second goal of the season to tie the game once again for the Heat. Allen stopped a shot by Sven Baertschi but allowed a rebound that Walter snapped into the goal.
After an Andrew Murray boarding penalty, Baertschi scored to give Abbotsford their first lead of the evening. Baertschi received a feed from T.J. Brodie and one-timed it past Allen for his second goal of the year.
The second period involved three more Heat goals. Roman Horak scored his second goal of the year 3:13 into the period to increase Abbotsford's lead to two goal before Dustin Sylvester and Krys Kolanos had scored just 64 seconds apart to cap the scoring at 6-2.
The Rivermen were outshot 33-19. Abbotsford went 2-for-4 on the man advantage while Peoria went 0-for-2.
The Rivermen will play Wednesday in Chicago at 7 p.m. The can be heard on CD Country 107.9 FM, online through www.rivermen.net, as well as on SiriusXM's NHL Network Radio.
