Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts ended their losing streak Friday night at Fitton Field with a 10-0 mercy-rule victory over the Norwich Sea Unicorns.
The win moves Worcester to 6-7 while Norwich drops to 7-8.
The offensive explosion was marked by an eight-run fifth inning. Already leading 2-0, Rico Riley (Jackson State) scored on an Alex Neff (Dayton) RBI double. Neff would come home on an RBI single by Sebastian Salado (Palm Beach Atlantic). Hudson native Michael Chaves Jr. (Worcester State) then hit a three-run home run to break the game open, 7-0. Worcester wasn't done scoring, however. Later in the inning, a Randy Flores (Franklin Pierce) double would score both Jonathan Santucci (Duke) and Nic Britt (William & Mary). A Nick Martin (Westfield State) RBI single scored Flores to cap things off.
It was part of an offensive performance that saw every Braveheart cross home plate.
Bravehearts starter Alex Amalfi (UMass Boston) got the win, going five innings, giving up no runs on three hits while walking two and striking out eight. Eddie Kaftan took the loss for Norwich, giving up two earned runs on three hits, walking three and striking out one.
The Bravehearts head to Brockton tomorrow to face the Rox at Campanelli Stadium before returning home Sunday to Fitton Field. First pitch is set for 6:05.
