
Head, Panko Named Players of Week

Boise, Idaho (Jan. 12, 2003)â The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Great Lakes Storm forward James Head earned the American Conference Player of the Week award, while Dakota Wizards forward Andy Panko garnered National Conference honors, for the period of January 5-11. Both players were named to their respective conference's All-Star Team for the 19th CBA All-Star Classic: January 13-14 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Head earned the Great Lakes Storm's first Player of the Week award for his 20.0 ppg on 31-53 (.585) shooting from the field. In leading his team to a 3-1 record, he also posted 9.0 rpg, 4.75 apg, and 3.5 spg. In a 114-97 (6-1) victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Jan. 10, the Eastern Michigan ('98) product tallied a team high 31 points to go along with his 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and game-high 4 steals.
Panko earned his CBA leading 3rd Player of the Week award for his 27.0 ppg, on 26-40 (.650) shooting from the field, and 6.3 rpg. The Wizards went 2-1 last week including a 110-103 win over the Idaho Stampede on Jan. 11. in which Panko scored a team-high 26 points on 8-9 (.889) shooting from the field and 7-8 (.875) from the foul line.
Other players receiving consideration in the American Conference were Rockford's Ronnie Fields (23.3 ppg, 9.0 rpg), Grand Rapids' Larry Ayuso (24.0 ppg, 18-31, .581 3-point field goal percentage), and Gary's Oliver Miller (21.5 ppg, 16.5 rpg). The other three players considered in the National Conference were Yakima's Damian Cantrell (19.8 ppg, 13.8 rpg), Idaho's John Coker (13.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg), and Sioux Falls' Corsley Edwards (18.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg).
