Sioux Falls, SD (January 14, 2003)— The National Conference squad defeated the American Conference in record fashion Tuesday night in front of 4,051 fans, at the 19th CBA All-Star Classic in Sioux Falls, S.D. The National team posted an All-Star record 140 points to their opponents 125. Sioux Falls Skyforce fan favorite, Versile Shaw poured in 27 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in 22 minutes, to earn All-Star Game MVP honors.

In all, 11 All-Star records, some up to 19-years-old, were broken. The new marks include 265 points (both teams), 40 points in a quarter (National, 2nd quarter), 56 field goals (National), 114 field goal attempts (National), .833 free throw percentage (American), 15 3-point field goals (National), 26 3-point field goal attempts (National), and 41 assists (National).

After a close first quarter (American 33, National 29) Head Coach Dave Joerger's (Dakota Wizards) National team came out and dominated the second, tying a CBA record with 74 first-half-points, to the American squad's 60. Head Coach Chris Daleo's (Rockford Lightning) Americans rallied after the break, outscoring their opponents 36-32 in the 3rd quarter. The deficit, however, proved too great to overcome as the National team rolled to victory behind 7 of 10 players with double-figure point totals.

The American Conference was led by Albert White of the Lightning, who tallied a game high 28 points, followed by the Great Lakes Storm's Cory Hightower (27 points), and 2003 Slam-Dunk Champion Bryant Notree, of the Gary Steelheads (21 points, 9 rebounds).

Fred Vinson of the Yakima Sun Kings drained an All-Star record 5 3-point field goals (5-6, .833), totaling 24 points, while Skyforce forward Corsley Edwards led all players with 12 rebounds, and Tyson Wheeler of the Sun Kings dished a game-high 14 assists.

The MVP award was voted on by the 15 NBA scouts in attendance. "The CBA gives you the opportunity to see players in a league similar to the NBA. These players are a phone call away from coming up to the NBA," said Mark Freideinger, scout for the San Antonio Spurs. "[NBA teams] need a list set up, where in case of injury you can get a player immediately. Obviously this is where you would turn.

At Monday's CBA Fan-Jam, Notree defeated Hightower in the 10th CBA Slam Dunk Championship final, and Malik Dixon of the Dakota Wizards out-shot Larry Ayuso of the Grand Rapids Hoops and Wheeler, in the final round of the 9th CBA Long Distance Shootout.
