Haymakers Start Offseason by Signing Five Players for 2014 Season

August 15, 2013 - Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) - Lincoln Haymakers News Release

Lincoln, NE - The Lincoln Haymakers have started building the roster for the 2014 season bringing back four top players from last season's team and one new free agent. Since player signings started in August, Lincoln has inked RB David Ferris, K Benny Hanaphy, DL Marcus Miles, DB Andre Jones, and OL Jeremy Schonbrunner.

Running Back David Ferris saw action in 11 games last season for the Haymakers gaining 264 yards on 56 carries with 6 rushing touchdowns. Ferris also had 28 receptions for 208 yards and 3 touchdown receptions. Ferris made the most out of every carry with a 4.3 average yards per rush which ranked him in the top 10 in the league. Ferris produced on the ground and in the air last season while splitting time with other running backs throughout the season. Ferris was voted by the fans as the Offensive Most Valuable Player for 2013. Benny Hanaphy resigns with the Haymakers after establishing himself last season as a reliable scoring threat. Hanaphy's franchise leading eight made field goals along with his 42 yard boot cemented his popularity with fans as he was voted Special Teams Most Valuable Player in 2013.

Marcus Miles returns to the Haymakers this year after a quality 2013 season stacking up 20 solo tackles, 24 assisted, and 1.5 Sacks. One of Miles' biggest highlights came last year with his fumble recovery for a touchdown in last season's final game against Kansas. Miles is a throwback iron man indoor football player as he played both sides of the ball last year as an offensive lineman, receiver, and defensive lineman.

One of several former Huskers in the defensive backfield last season was Andre Jones who returns to the Haymakers for 2014. Jones racked up 13 solo tackles with 8 assisted in his rookie indoor season. Jones reeled in an interception and scooped up a fumble during the 2013 campaign. Jones' talent could really blossom in his second year in the Haymakers defensive secondary with more experience and comfort inside the indoor football walls.

Lincoln has also signed Offensive Lineman Jeremy Schonbrunner out of Temple for the 2014 season. Schonbrunner, the 6'3" 305 pound offensive lineman made nine starts at center for the Owls. Schonbrunner will come into camp to compete for a job building up an offensive line that struggled last season for the Haymakers.

Lincoln will continue to resign players from last season's roster as well as rookies and other free agents before CPIFL rosters open up in November. After November, unsigned players from any roster become free agents. Keep up with all the Haymakers news at and on the team's official Facebook and Twitter accounts.
