Haymakers Get A Solid Win Against The Defenders

Lincoln, NE - The Haymakers end their four game losing skid, with a shoot-out at the Pershing winning 46-40 over the Oklahoma Defenders. Starting out strong was the deference in tonight's game as the Haymakers would pull out to a 14-0 lead early. A strong kicking performance from newly added Hanaphy, and a monster game from Nick Rhodes proved to be big in tonight's win.

The Haymakers started the game strong as the first TD of the game came on the Haymakers second drive, Quarter Back Blake Bolles scrambled 45 yard to put the Haymakers on the board.

The second quarter started off with Nick Rhodes out leaping the defender to catch a touchdown from Bolles. The Haymakers seemed to have all the momentum, but the Defenders responded quick as Jason Stephenson returned the following kickoff for a TD. Not soon after Bolles would be hit from behind fumbling the ball putting the Defenders in prime position to score, and they would do just that with 6:50 left in the half. The Defenders quarterback Rayshard Kelley threw a 20 yard TD pass to Gabe Ramos. The Haymakers would go up with 37 seconds left in the half, after another Bolles to Rhodes reception.

The 3rd quarter started with Jon Banks hauling in his second interception of the game, which would set up Hanaphy for a Haymakers field goal. The Defenders would respond with a long TD run by Kingjack Wahington, to bring the score to 24-21 Haymakers. Rhodes would answer with reverse for a TD which would put the score at 31-21 to end the 3rd

The 4th started with a Haymakers Hanaphy FG, and a 31 yard TD run by the Defenders Washington. The scoring would continue with another Hanaphy FG, and another TD by the Defender when quarterback Kelley found his receiver in the end-zone, the PAT would be blocked and returned for two Haymaker points by Willie Horn. David Ferris would extend the lead to 46-34 after an 18 yard TD run with 4:36 left to play in the game. The Defenders would climb a little closer after Washington would score on a two yard run with 1:26 to play, the PAT would end up being blocked. After the Defenders touchdown the score was locked at 46-40. The Haymakers would then run out the clock.

WR Nick Rhodes would score 3 times, one rushing and two receiving. Jon Banks would also have a big game on the defensive side of the ball ending the game with 2 interceptions. Bolles would throw for two Touchdowns and David Ferris would add one of his own on the ground. The Haymakers improve to 2-4 and Oklahoma will fall to 2-5. The Haymakers will take on the Bloomington Edge at home next Friday night. This will be the second matchup this season the Haymakers will look to avenge an earlier loss to the Edge.
