Haymakers Beat Edge in Final Seconds

March 17, 2014 - Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) - Lincoln Haymakers News Release

Lincoln, NE, March 14, 2014: The Lincoln Haymakers outlasted the Bloomington Edge in a thrilling back-and-forth game in Lincoln, NE Friday night. Both the Edge and Haymakers came into the game seeking their first wins of the season. This was one of the most entertaining home games in Haymakers history, with Lincoln coming out on top 54-50.

The Edge took an early 12-3 lead after missing back-to-back extra points, but a 23 yard run by RB Travis Ribbing with 1:07 left in the 1st quarter brought the Haymakers within two. The game was filled with hits and defensive stops that brought Haymaker fans to their feet. In the 2nd quarter, former Nebraska Blackshirt, Andre Jonesa had a monster hit that sent WR Lavaughn, Macon over the dasher boards. A long 30 yard pass from QB Chuck Wright to WR Nick Rhodes, along with a rushing touchdown from WR Shane Scott put Lincoln ahead 24-19. After an Edge touchdown, the Haymakers quickly answered back with two touchdowns right before the half; a 10 yard pass from Wright to WR Keith Eloi and a powerful 13 yard run by Ribbing who broke through 5 Edge defenders on his way into the end zone.

The Edge opened up that half with back-to-back scores and took a 39-38 lead into the 4th Quarter. However, games are won and lost in the 4th quarter and the Haymakers came to play. After trading field goals, the Bloomington Edge still led by one point with less than five minutes to go in the game 42-41. With 1:37 left on the clock the Haymakers took the lead with a 19 yard touchdown scamper by Ribbing, but were unsuccessful on the two-point conversion. However the Edge answered right back with late score and successful two-point conversion to take the lead 50-47. But it was Lincoln who would get the last word, as Wright found WR Travis Hunter in the end zone for the game-winning score with :20 seconds to go. A last effort pass by the Edge was broken up by DB Andre Jones which solidified the game and the Haymakers first win of the season.

Bloomington falls to (0-2) on the season, while Lincoln improves to (1-2). The Haymakers will take on the Omaha Beef next Saturday, March 22nd, at the Ralston Arena in Omaha.
