January 15, 2006 - NBA G League (G League)
Tulsa 66ers News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., January 15 - Chuck Hayes recorded his eighth double-double as the Albuquerque Thunderbirds ran away from the Tulsa 66ers for a 105-83 victory in the second game of the D-League MLK Showcase Sunday at the Crown Coliseum.

Hayes scored 16 points and collected 13 rebounds to add an exclamation point to his season-long dominance against the 66ers on the glass. In the last seven games against Tulsa the rookie from the University of Kentucky has collected 75 rebounds (17.1 pg).

"Chuck Hayes is always there for us. He's the one guy we know we can always count on," Albuquerque coach Michael Cooper said. "C.J. (Miles) is also playing great. This is just his fourth game with us and he is getting comfortable with what we do."

Tierre Brown and Miles, on assignment from the Utah Jazz, led T-Birds scorers with 19 points apiece. Brown, playing in his second game since being picked up by Albuquerque earlier this week, has averaged 18 points and has connected on 12-of-22 field goal attempts (.545) since joining the club. Marcus Douthit collected 13 rebounds.

"Tierre is doing exactly what we needed," Cooper said. "He is running our offense, getting everyone involved and scoring. He was a great pickup for us."

Albuquerque improved to 11-7 with the win and has won four of its last five games. Tulsa dropped to 9-11. The Thunderbirds, who led by as many as 29 in the game, have beaten the 66ers in six of eight meetings this season.

"I'm just glad we are done with Albuquerque. We have played them eight times and thy have beat our heads in every time," Tulsa coach Joey Meyer said. "In the first half we played like we didn't even know ourselves. We played harder in the second half and made it a little closer."

Will Conroy was an assist shy of a triple-double for Tulsa, finishing with 23 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Ersan Ilyasova came off the 66ers bench to score 13. Bernard King and Desmon Farmer chipped in 11 points each.

Albuquerque returns to action Monday at 11 a.m. ET against the Austin Toros to kick off the second day of the Showcase. Tulsa meets Fort Worth Monday at 5 p.m.
