Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-One current and one future Waterloo Black Hawk have been selected to represent the United States at the annual Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia next month, USA Hockey announced Thursday.
Veteran forward Vince Hinostroza will skate for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team during the event. Last winter, Hinostroza appeared in 50 Black Hawks games, recording eight goals and 14 assists. He also served as one of the Hawks' top defensive centermen. Waterloo native Cal Petersen was also selected for the squad. In 2010-2011, the former Waterloo Warriors goaltender appeared for the Chicago Young Americans midget hockey program. The Black Hawks drafted Petersen during the 13th round of the 2011 USHL Draft in May.
In addition to Hinostroza, five other USHL regulars were included on the U.S. Select Team roster. The competition begins on August 8th with a matchup against Finland. Canada, Czech Republic, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, and Switzerland will also be represented. Games will be played at Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.
Last August, Black Hawks goalie Jay Williams appeared for the United States during the Ivan Hlinka Tournament. Team USA finished second in the event.
