Rockford RiverHawks News Release
NORMAL, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks' Frontier League All-Star Game representatives were hitless as the West Division lost, 9-6, to the East on Wednesday at the Corn Crib.
Javier Herrera and Matt Greener were each 0-for-2 for the West. Herrera, who played in the 2005 Futures Game as a top Oakland prospect, was the FL West's starting center fielder. Greener, a first-time All-Star, was the backup at third base. The RiverHawks' third all-star representative, pitcher Mike Lee, signed with the Atlanta Braves organization last week.
The All-Stars combined to hit seven home runs. Traverse City's Jose Vargas, who has a league-leading 18 home runs, hit a homer in the top of the first inning for the East, which led the rest of the way. Paul Fagan of Lake Erie pitched a perfect first inning for the East and got the win. Tim Brown of Gateway started for the West and took the loss.
