Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks rallied back from a seven-run deficit to tie the score in the eighth inning, but eventually fell to the Inland Empire 66ers, 9-8, on Tuesday night at The Hangar.
Chase McDonald homered in his third straight game with a solo home run in the ninth inning off 66ers (36-38) right-hander Geoff Broussard. A.J. Reed went 0-for-3 with two walks, ending his hitting streak at 13 games.
McDonald's ninth-inning home run came with the JetHawks (40-35) trailing by two runs. But a groundout ended the game and handed Lancaster its fifth straight loss at home.
Inland Empire broke a 7-7 tie in the top of the ninth with a two-run single by Kody Eaves against Reymin Guduan (0-3). Prior to Eaves' single, Eric Aguilera had drawn a one-out walk, and Andrew Daniel followed with a double.
Trailing 7-0 entering the bottom of the third, the JetHawks chipped away against 66ers pitching. J.D. Davis hit a two-run single in the third off Ryan Etsell, and James Ramsay scored from third on a wild pitch by Trevor Foss in the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Lancaster got a McDonald leadoff double and a Jacob Nottingham walk. After Mott Hyde reached on a fielder's choice, Ramsay hit a groundball to second. Eaves threw to shortstop Roberto Baldoquin covering second, but Baldoquin juggled the ball, allowing McDonald to score from third. Derek Fisher then tripled into the right-field corner, scoring two runs and bringing the JetHawks to within one run.
Lancaster later tied the score in the eighth against reliever Michael Smith (6-0) with a Ramsay RBI-single.
The 66ers had rallied for six runs in the top of the second inning against Troy Scribner. Daniel led off with a doubled and scored on a Roberto Baldoquin single. Angel Rosa followed with another single, and both Baldoquin and Rosa advanced on a double steal before a walk to Michael Strentz loaded the bases. Ruben Sosa hit a two-run double for a 3-0 Inland Empire lead. Bo Way walked to load the bases for Aguilera, who delivered a three-run double to increase the lead to six. Caleb Adams added a solo home run against Scribner in the third.
Despite allowing seven runs on nine hits, Scribner lasted six innings, striking out five and walking five.
The series continues on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. as the JetHawks send Kevin Comer (1-2, 2.65) to the mound opposite Inland Empire's Harrison Cooney (1-6, 6.20).
