Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-The Waterloo Black Hawks playoff situation crystallized Friday evening as the Lincoln Stars and Omaha Lancers won their games, thereby locking Waterloo into third place in the USHL Western Conference.
The Hawks also claimed a victory on Friday, 3-1 at home against the Tri-City Storm. However, with just one regular season game left on the schedule, Waterloo's four point deficit to Lincoln and three point margin behind Omaha are too much to overcome. As a result, the Hawks will begin their Rydell Chevrolet Drive to the Cup Monday, with a best-of-three series rematch against the Storm.
All games in the first round will be played in Waterloo, beginning at 7:05 PM. After Monday's opener, Game Two is slated for Tuesday. If necessary, Game Three would be played Wednesday evening. Tickets for the first round of the playoffs will go on sale from the Black Hawks' Box Office Saturday morning at 11:30 AM.
During the regular season, Waterloo earned a 3-1-0 mark against Tri-City. The tightly-played, low-scoring series did not include a margin of victory greater than two goals for either side. The Black Hawks and Storm have not met in the postseason since 2004, when Waterloo claimed the Clark Cup during a four-game championship series. The Hawks will enjoy home ice advantage in the playoffs for the first time since 2008, when they reached the championship series against Omaha.
In addition to playoff tickets, seats for the 2011-2012 regular season finale Saturday evening will also be on available when the Black Hawks Box Office opens. Waterloo hosts the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at 7:05 PM Saturday.
