Hawkeyes Take One, Another Suspended
July 3, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Cooperstown Hawkeyes News Release
The Newark Pilots visited Doubleday Field Sunday afternoon to complete a suspended game from June 24th which was suspended after lightning and heavy rain suspended the game after Newark had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the 6th inning on a solo homer by first baseman Rany Villa. Cooperstown had only managed 2 hits in that game as starter Carson Beauchaine never allowed a runner past 2B.
In the completion game, the Hawkeyes tied the score as DH Ben Manlove walked and stole second and scored on a line single by catcher Gaby Ramirez. In the eighth RHP Mark Scott replaced Mike Saunders and with Nate Izzo on 1st after a bunt single and gave up a Coleman Barron single to left advancing Izzo to 2B. Danny Nelson launched a hard hit line drive which Newark CF Michael Bolling broke in on as the ball sailed to the wall over his head to give the Hawkeyes a 3-1 lead. Ben Miller followed with a sacriffice fly to Barron and Nelson scored easily from 3rd with an insurance run that allowed Parker Ray some breathing room as he closed out the 9th for his first save of the season and a 4-1 Cooperstown victory.
The rains came in during the conclusion contest and resulted in the Hawkeyes 4th rainout at home of the season. The umpires deemed the field unplayable in the fourth inning and the Hawkeyes-Newark will make up the game in Cooperstown as part of a doubleheader on July 31st. The Hawkeyes take on the Amsterdam Mohawks tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 at Doubleday and tickets are available online @www.cooperstownhawkeyes.com or at the ballpark box office at noon.
