Havoc Drop Three On The Road

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc dropped three games on the road, falling 4-3 in a shootout to the Pensacola Ice Flyers before losing two straight games to the Peoria Rivermen 3-2 on Friday and 7-2 on Saturday.

Tuesday, December 29 - Huntsville 3, Pensacola 4 - SO

PENSACOLA, FL - Mike Krieg netted the deciding goal for the Pensacola Ice Flyers in the shootout as Ice Flyers prevailed over the Huntsville Havoc, 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams. Huntsville got a shootout goal from Brett Lutes. In addition to the clincher, Pensacola got a shootout goal from Corey Banfield.

The Ice Flyers saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Pensacola made the score 2-0 on a power play goal by Adam Pawlick at 7:20 in the second period. The Havoc evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Jeremy Beirnes at 11:54 in the third period.

The Ice Flyers kept Huntsville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jordan Ruby made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Pensacola was helped by David Segal, who finished with one goal. Segal scored on the power play 1:35 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Cody Dion provided the assist. Banfield also scored for Pensacola. More assists for Pensacola came via Cole Ruwe, who had two and Jeremy Gates and Joe Caveney, who each chipped in one.

The Havoc were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 21 penalty minutes. With 31 shots on target during the contest, Huntsville exceeded the 27.2 shots it averages per game this year.

The Havoc were led by John Lidgett, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lidgett scored short-handed 17 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Lutes picked up the assist. Huntsville also got a goal from Nolan Kaiser as well. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Stuart Stefan, Scott Henegar, and Cameron Yarwood, who contributed one each.

John McLean recorded 28 saves for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play. Huntsville registered one goal on four power play opportunities.

Friday, January 1 - Huntsville 2, Peoria 3

PEORIA, IL - Mark Corbett gave the Peoria Rivermen the lead in the first period, and the Huntsville Havoc was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-2.

Corbett provided Peoria with the game-winning tally when he scored 15:38 into the first period. Steve Morra provided the assist.

The Rivermen were sparked by Don Maloney Jr., who racked up one goal. Maloney Jr. scored 7:39 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Peoria. Mike Donnellan picked up the assist.

Peoria's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Rivermen put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.9 they average per game.

Peoria also got a goal from Dave Pszenyczny as well. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Brandon Greenside, Dan Bremner, Chris Wilson, and Matt Summers, who each chipped in one.

Huntsville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Peoria power plays.

The Havoc were helped by John McGinnis, who tallied one goal. McGinnis scored on the power play 8:58 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Peoria. Huntsville had taken the advantage when Peoria's Alec Hagaman got sent off for high sticking. Kyle McNeil assisted on the tally. Nolan Kaiser also scored for Huntsville. More assists for Huntsville came via Steve Mele, who had two.

David Jacobson made 24 saves for the Rivermen on 26 shots. Peoria incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Kevin Genoe recorded 33 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

Saturday, January 2 - Huntsville 2, Peoria 7

PEORIA, IL - Behind one goal and two assists from Adam Stuart and two goals and one assist from Steve Morra, the Peoria Rivermen downed the Huntsville Havoc 7-2.

Stuart scored on the power play 19:03 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Peoria. Peoria had gotten the advantage when Huntsville's Brett Lutes was sent off for tripping. Matt Summers provided the assist. Morra scored the first of his two goals at 5:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria. Brandon Greenside picked up the assist. Morra's next tally made the score 6-3 Peoria with 10:57 left in the third period. Stuart assisted on the tally.

The Rivermen bested their season scoring average. Peoria averages 3.2 goals per game. With 43 shots on target during the contest, the Rivermen exceeded the 22.8 shots they average per game this year.

Peoria also got points from Terrence Wallin, who also had two goals and one assist and Morra, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Peoria also had goals scored by Alec Hagaman and Ben Oskroba, who each put in one. In addition, Peoria received assists from Christian Weidauer and Don Maloney Jr., who each chipped in one and Dan Bremner, Chris Wilson, and Mike Donnellan, who contributed two each.

The Havoc relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as John Lidgett, Kyle McNeil and Dave Williams took 16 of the team's 30 shots.

More assists for Huntsville came via Zach Josepher and Stuart Stefan, who each chipped in one.

David Jacobson made 28 saves for Peoria on 30 shots. The Rivermen incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Kevin Genoe took the loss and made 33 saves before being replaced by Matt Cooper who made three saves. Huntsville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Havoc, Lutes was ejected from the game.
