EAST HARTFORD, CT - May 13, 2011 - The Hartford Colonials signed seven players to contracts for the 2011 United Football League season. Terms of the deals are not disclosed.
The signings include three players who were on Hartford's 2010 roster - cornerback Ryan Palmer, defensive lineman Jonas Seawright and offensive lineman Orrin Thompson. The Colonials also signed two NFL veterans, safety Brannon Condren and linebacker Adam Seward, as well as second-year defensive back Terrell Skinner and rookie running back Phillip Tanner.
Condren was on Hartford's 10-man Reserve/Unsigned list, which was announced April 26. Drafted in the fourth round by the Indianapolis Colts in 2007, he played eight games during his rookie season and appeared in four games the following season with the Miami Dolphins. Condren has been on practice squads with the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets, and also spent time with the St. Louis Rams.
Seward, whose middle name is Hartford, spent five season in the NFL after being drafted in the fifth-round by Carolina in 2005. In four seasons with the Panthers, he played 40 games and registered 46 combined tackles. Seward also appeared in three games with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2009.
Skinner, two-year starter at Maryland who played in the prestigious Senior Bowl, was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings following the 2010 NFL Draft. After being released, the Colts signed him last August and cut him in early September.
Tanner was a fifth-round pick by the Colonials in the UFL Draft on May 2. He rushed for 928 yards and 13 touchdowns during his senior year at Middle Tennessee State and had 21 receptions for 194 yards. In the GoDaddy.com Bowl against Miami (Ohio), Tanner had touchdown runs of 54 and 18 yards.
Palmer had a team-leading two interceptions, broke up four passes and forced a fumble in his first season with the Colonials. Seawright had 20 tackles and two sacks.
