Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TX: December 9, 2004 – The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 are thrilled to announce they have been assigned offensive specialist Joe Lemberg by the af2 for the 2005 season.

"We talked to Joe and he is hungry to play professionally," said Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy. "When scouting him, we watched his video tape and he consistently made the big play in college."

Lemberg is a native of Farmersville, Texas and wrapped up his college career last fall as a participant in the 2003 Aztec Bowl. The Aztec Bowl is held annually in Mexico and pits the NCAA Div. III All-Stars against the best college players from Mexico university programs. Lemberg caught three passes for 61 yards and had a touchdown for the Div. III All-Stars.

The 5'11" 180-pound receiver made the squad after concluding a very successful career at Hardin-Simmons University (Abilene, Tx). Lemberg was with the Cowboys from 2000-2003 and amassed 3,007 all-purpose yards. The 25 year-old was the team's leading receiver in 2002 and 2003, and finished with a combined 2,518 receiving yards in his career off of 165 catches and 26 touchdowns. Lemberg also had 493 punt return yards and a touchdown off 37 returns and even filled in as a kicker in his senior season (2003), going one for three in field goals (nailed a 29-yard kick) and converting on 13 PATs. The sports fitness major was an Academic All-American Southwest Conference (ASC) and was All-ASC in 2001 (honorable mention), 2002 (Second Team) and in 2003 (First Team).

Prior to Hardin-Simmons, Lemberg attended high school at Nevada - Community and Farmersville. He was a multi-star athlete at Farmersville, as he was all-state in football and basketball, a state qualifier in tennis, all-district in baseball, and a regional qualifier in golf.

Lemberg is the second Texas born player assigned to the Dorados 2005 roster and the fifth player assigned to the squad overall, joining John Bradley (OL/DL), Josh Kellett (QB), David Morrill (FB/LB) and Josh Tubbs (OL/DL). Media members seeking an interview with Lemberg or Coach Guy are encouraged to contact Chris Due with the Dorados at 956-227-4940. Coach Guy is currently in Alabama and will make his way down to the Rio Grande Valley after the holiday season.

The Dorados kick-off their 2005 campaign April 9th at the Dodge Arena, as they host the Louisville Fire. Season ticket packages and advertising opportunities are available by contacting the Dorados offices at 956-843-7825.
