Hard Work Not Enough for Majors

TORONTO, ON (December 18, 2005) - The Toronto St. Michael's Majors put forth a solid effort against the Plymouth Whalers this afternoon. Unfortunately, the win wasn't in the cards as they gave up a goal each period and ended up falling 4-1. The loss drops their record to 17-13-3-2 heading into the Christmas break.

James Neal got the Whalers on the board at 12:12 of the 1st period, off of Gino Pisellini and Steve Ward feeds. Joe Gaynor then made it 2-0 at 3:54 of the 2nd period, with the assists going to Dan Collins and Evan Brophey. The lead was increased to 3-0 at 10:49 of the 3rd period when Ondrej Otcenas tickled the twine off of Pisellini and Andrew Fournier support. Jared Boll then upped the lead to 4-0 just under 4 minutes later, with the assists getting credited to Brophey and John Vigilante.

The Majors were able to break the shutout of former Toronto netminder Justin Peters with 37 seconds remaining. Matt Halischuk was the goalscorer while Tyler Haskins and Steve Spade grabbed the assists. However, that was all the offence they could muster on this day.

Peters finished the day with 31 saves while Ryan Nie had 24 for the Majors. Toronto was 0 for 9 on the power-play while Plymouth was 0 for 7. The game' s three stars were Brophey (1st), Peters (2nd) and Pisellini (3rd).

The Majors don't return to action until Wednesday, December 28th when they travel to Mississauga to battle the IceDogs at 7:05 pm. Then, they return home to host the Brampton Battalion on Friday, December 30th at 7:30 pm. Both games will be broadcast on Rogers television in the Toronto region, channel 10 or 63, and webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.
