July 1, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release
One night after a dramatic win and spectacular fireworks, the HarbourCats proved again to be 'red hot.'
The Victoria HarbourCats, who unveiled new red team hats for this holiday series, scored early and often on Canada Day, celebrating the national birthday with a runaway 19-2 win over the Kitsap Blue Jackets in a game played in front of 2,389 on a hot afternoon.
Hunter Mercado-Hood was 4-4 with six RBIs -- including a three-run home run, two doubles and a single, missing the cycle by the elusive triple. The HarbourCats pounded out 19 hits, with Alex DeGoti 3-3 with a double, Sean Watkins was 3-4 with three RBIs, and Griffin Andreychuk was 2-4 with three runs scored.
Kitsap managed eight hits and didn't score until pushing across single runs in the seventh and eighth. Mikey Wright pitched six innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out three. Carson Schneider and Dylan Stowell saw mound duty as well.
The HarbourCats (8-12), who play Kitsap again in the series finale on Wednesday (7:11pm, Elvis and free hotdogs for kids night), have won three in a row and are now within a half-game of Kitsap in the West Division. Kitsap has lost seven in a row and are now 8-11.
After an off-day on Thursday, the two teams meet again on Friday in Silverdale, WA, home of the BlueJackets, for a three-game set. The HarbourCats then move on to Yakima Valley to face the expansion Pippins for three games, before returning to Victoria to play the Medford Rogues, July 10-12.
The HarbourCats lead the WCL in regular season attendance at 1,533.
