Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Alec Hansen struck out a career-high 15 batters and the Intimidators defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers 8-1 on Sunday night at First National Bank Field. Kannapolis (26-22) splits the four-game set with Greensboro two games apiece.
Hansen (5-3) picked up the win going seven innings (99 pitches) and allowing one run on five hits with no walks. Victor Diaz logged two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, as Kannapolis pitchers combined to fan 20 batters, a new season high. Greensboro starter Dustin Beggs (3-4) took the loss going five innings and allowing five runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Kannapolis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Seby Zavala led off with a double to left field and scored on an RBI single from Max Dutto.
The I's then added four more in the fourth inning to break the game open. After Micker Adolfo walked to lead off the frame followed by a Zach Remillard single that put two aboard, Brandon Dulin launched his seventh home run of the season to left-center field making it 4-0. On the next pitch, Zavala homered for the 10th time this year, measured at 398-feet to left field, making it 5-0.
Dulin and Zavala became the first Intimidators duo to hit back-to-back home runs since May 22, 2016, when Corey Zangari and Danny Mendick hit consecutive homers at Asheville. Dulin finished 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Zavala ended the night a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, an RBI and three runs scored.
Kannapolis added three more in the top of the sixth inning when Jameson Fisher cleared the bases with a three-run two-out double down the right field line making the score 8-1.
The only Greensboro run came on a home run to left-center field in the fifth when a fly ball to left center by Alex Jones ricocheted off the glove of Joel Booker and over the fence.
Kannapolis continues its seven-game road trip with the first game of a three-game set against Hickory on Monday night as LHP Bernardo Flores (5-3, 3.62f ERA) takes the mound against Crawdads RHP Kyle Cody (1-5, 3.47 ERA) at 6:00 p.m. Play-by-play coverage will be available on IntimidatorsBaseball.com beginning at 5:45 p.m.
