Hammers Fall 62-44 at Richmond

Richmond, Va. - The Alabama Hammers led it early Saturday night, but slowly faded away during a 62-44 loss to the Richmond Raiders before 3,587 fans at the Richmond Coliseum.

The Hammers trailed 35-19 at the half but pulled within 48-38 after quarterback Arvell Nelson's 30-yard touchdown pass to Chris Coach midway through the fourth quarter.

Alabama's comeback was halted when Richmond quarterback Antwon Young ran in a 2-yard score and backed that up - following a Hammer turnover - with a 44-yard scoring strike to Hakeem Moore with less than a minute to play.

Nelson completed 18 of 33 passes for 241 yards and seven touchdowns with one interception. Alabama receiver Charles McClain had seven catches for 91 yards and three scores.

The Hammers fell to 1-3 on the Professional Indoor Football League season while Richmond improved to 4-1. Alabama returns home Saturday night to host the Knoxville Nighthawks at the Von Braun Center's Propst Arena.
