Alabama Hammers News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Al. - Needing to win to get into the playoffs, the Alabama Hammers were unable to get anything going in the fourth quarter as they fell to the Richmond Raiders 57-40 Saturday night in front of a crowd of 3,073. at the Von Braun Center.

The Hammers, who fall to 2-8 on the season, were eliminated from the Professional Indoor Football League Playoffs when the Louisiana Swashbucklers beat the Columbus Lions 61-57 on Saturday night. Alabama trailed the Swashbucklers by two games in the league standings and needed to win out in order to make the playoffs.

Raiders quarterback Antwon Young threw four-touchdown pass and ran for three more as the Raiders jumped out to an early 27-8 lead. Young finished the game completing 14-of-29 passes for 211-yards and two interceptions as the Raiders improve to 8-2 on the season and remain in second place in the PIFL standings.

Hammers quarterback Tony Colston finished the game 21-of-44 for 229-yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions. Thomas Harris led the way with nine receptions for 97-yards and four touchdowns. Mico McSwain finished with six catches for 77-yards and one touchdown while Charles McClain added five receptions for 49-yards.

After falling down 27-8, Colston led the Hammers on three scoring drives in the second quarter to cut the lead to 34-26 at halftime. His 30-yard touchdown pass to Harris to open the second half cut the lead to 34-33 in the third quarter, but it would be all Richmond from there out as the Raiders scored 15-fourth quarter points to secure the victory.

The Hammers will face the Swashbucklers in back-to-back games to finish the season. The first game will be at home next week and then the team will travel to Louisiana to conclude the season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
