Hammerheads Lose Heartbreaker

Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release

Corpus Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi Hammerheads (2-4) came into Saturday night's game with revenge on their minds following the 85-30 loss they took to the Houston Stallions (7-0) last week in Katy. The Hammerheads performance Saturday was a better one but the results were the same as kicker Darren Brown missed a 19 yard field goal with 24 seconds left as the Hammerheads fell to the Stallions 41-40.

"This one was tough, tougher then last week", said Corpus Christi Head Coach Dustin Almond. "Our defense played well, well enough to win, but we missed opportunities, made two turnovers, and they took advantage of them like good teams do".

Corpus Christi led the game at halftime 20-12. Houston tied it up on their first possession of the second half when QB Robert Kent hit Damion Clark with an 18 yard TD pass and the Timon Marshall on a two point conversion attempt. The rest of the game see-sawed back and forth with Corpus Christi matching Houston score for score.

It wasn't until 7:29 of the fourth quarter that the Stallions took their first lead of the night. Following Hammerhead QB Anthony Andre's second interception of the night, Robert Kent led the Stallions on a 4 play 25 yard drive capped off with an 18 yard pass to Carlos Alsup for the score to go ahead 41-34.

The Hammerheads would answer with a score of their own to cut the gap to 41-40, but Almond decided to go for two rather than kick the PAT. The try failed and the Hammerheads came up short.

The Hammerheads will have the week to regroup before taking on the Rio Grande Valley Magic Monday, May 9th at the American Bank Center. The Hammerheads have designated the game as Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The team will wear special Pink Jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game with the proceeds donated to the Susan G. Koman Foundation. The first 500 ladies through the door will also receive a replica jersey courtesy of Radiology and Imaging. Tickets start at $10 and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com, The American Bank Center Box Office or by calling the Hammerheads office at (361)814-PASS (7277). Game time Saturday is set for 7:05pm and can be heard locally on Sports Radio Corpus Christi, 1230am, beginning at 6:45pm.
