Albany's Secondary Keys Win
May 1, 2011 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Richmond Raiders News Release
(RICHMOND)- Road wins come when you create opportunities for your offense and they turn those chances into points. Four times the Richmond Raiders took the ball away from the Albany Panthers (7-0). All four takeaways were answered by Albany interceptions. A fifth Albany pickoff ended a late 2nd quarter scoring drive with the Raiders holding a 23-20 lead. Albany continued their unbeaten run with a 61-46 SIFL victory in a matchup of divisional leaders.
The Raiders ran into a hot quarterback for the second straight week. Cecil Lester was 24 for 36 passing for 320 yards and 8 TDs including a 49 yard scrambling bomb to Antwone Savage (3 TDs) on the last play of the first half that gave Albany the lead for good. He was intercepted once by Stephen Cason.
The Raiders QB Mike Potts threw for 228 yards and 5 TDs and rushed for another in a losing effort. Redd Thompson caught 6 passes for 87 yards and 4 TDs. Herb Jones continued his recent success with 7 catches for 78 yards. The Raiders (4-3) stay in first place in the SIFL Mid-Atlantic Division with an one game lead over the Fayetteville Force.
Richmond resumes their 2011 home schedule May 7 in a re-match against the Erie Explosion. It will be Local Attraction Night presented by Colonial Downs with the first three thousand fans receiving free passes to a race day during the 2011 Thoroughbred Season. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Raider Ticket Hotline at 804-780-0430 or at ticketmaster.com.
