Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced today the addition of defender Anthony Peters prior to the 2015 USL season.

Hammerheads fans were able to get their first glimpse of Peters as he made his debut with the team on Friday during a preseason match versus the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

"Anthony is a great addition to our club and a player that we are very happy to have with us," said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter. "His physical presence is the first thing that you notice. His size and athleticism make him excellent in the air and an imposing figure to opponents. He is a positive person, a competitive person, and a hard-worker that is determined to find success this year."

The six-foot six-inch defender played collegiately at the University of Kentucky and West Virginia Wesleyan College while also spending time with the Carolina Dynamo and Baton Rouge Capitals of USL's Premier Development League and the New Orleans Shell Shockers of the National Premier Soccer League.

Peters began his professional career in 2009 with the Cleveland City Stars before signing with Major League Soccer's D.C. United a few months later. He was later loaned to the Harrisburg City Islanders and Richmond Kickers before returning to the Stars.

Peters also spent time with English non-League side Mansfield Town and Conference South club Newport County. Most recently, Peters signed with Gainsborough Trinity Football Club of Conference North before returning to the Baton Rouge Capitals and later joining C.D. Motagua New Orleans, an adult men's team that plays in the Liga Islano system in the New Orleans area.

The Hammerheads take the field for their final preseason match on Saturday, March 21 at 5:30 p.m. ET at Legion Stadium versus the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Admission to the match is free. The team kicks off their 2015 USL regular season at 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 28 versus the Richmond Kickers at Legion Stadium. Season ticket packages and single tickets are now available for purchase online.
