(BUFFALO, NY) – Buffalo Destroyers owner and CEO Mark Hamister was introduced as the new Chairman of the Arena Football League's Board of Directors during the board's meetings at the ArenaBowl last weekend.

The role of the Chairman of the AFL Board of Directors is to head the Executive Committee and to work closely with the Commissioner to ensure strong communication between the Commissioner and the AFL's Board of Directors.

"Mark has proven to be a great leader and strong supporter during his tenure in the AFL," said AFL Commissioner David Baker. "He has been a leader with our NFL relationship, our labor discussions, and with developing our new TV partner, NBC. As the AFL steps into a more prominent spotlight, Mark's leadership will be even more important."

Hamister has been involved with the AFL since August 1997 when the league's Board of Directors unanimously voted in favor of granting Hamister and the city of Buffalo an expansion Arena Football franchise. After having success with the Buffalo Destroyers, who this year made the playoffs for the second time in their four-year history, he began to develop plans to expand the exciting sport of Arena Football into other markets. Hamister was awarded an arenafootball2 franchise in October 2000 and immediately began to build the Rochester Brigade. Hamister was awarded another af2 franchise for Cincinnati, Ohio in July 2002. He also serves as Chairman of the Expansion and Relocation Committee.

Hamister has been a successful businessman in Western New York for over 20 years. He formed the Hamister Group of Companies, Inc. in January 2001 to serve as an umbrella organization over a growing group of companies that is divided into three service sectors and principally owned by Mark Hamister. HGC is comprised of National Health Care Affiliates (founded by Hamister in 1981), The Medlink Group, The Heights Group, Hamister Development Company, Premier Self Storage and North American Sports, which is comprised of the Destroyers, Brigade and the new Cincinnati arena football team.

Hamister is an active supporter of community affairs in the Buffalo area, currently serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Buffalo Niagara Partnership (the regional chamber of commerce) and is a director on several Boards of Directors.
