Hamilton Tiger-Cats Sign Veteran Canadian Receiver

Hamilton Tiger-Cat Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Ron Lancaster has announced the signing of veteran Canadian slotback/receiver Ibrahim Tounkara to the team's roster. At the same time, Lancaster also announced the release of Canadian wide receiver Andrew English, in his second season with the Tiger-Cats and seventh in the CFL.

Tounkara played in a total of 54 career regular season CFL games as a member of the Calgary Stampeders for 3 seasons, starting in 2000. The former University of Ottawa standout was Calgary's number one draft pick, fifth overall in the 2000 CFL Canadian College Draft. Tounkara's playoff experience included one West semi-final, two West finals and one Grey Cup, the 89th Grey Cup Classic, November 25, 2001 in Montreal.

At the University level, the Montreal Native dominated the OQIFC. IN 1998, he finished first in the OQIFC and CIAU in kickoff returns with 33 for 511 yards. He was a member of the OQIFC All-Star team for two seasons, finishing in the top five of several OQIFC categories in 1999. He finished second in reception yardage with 730 (5th in CIAU), recorded 7 touchdowns and was second in punt returns with 474 yards for an impressive 11.9 yard average (3rd in CIAU).

Lancaster says he's always liked Tounkara as a player. "His experience in the league is a big asset along with the fact that his size will allow us to use his receiving talents either inside at the slot position or outside, as a wide receiver. This will add a huge plus to our receiving corps," added Lancaster.
