Hamilton Loses to Road Runners

EDMONTON, AB - The Hamilton Bulldogs concluded their four-game Western Canada road trip by losing a 3-2 decision to the Edmonton Road Runners at Rexall Place on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs head into Christmas break with a record of 11 wins, 13 losses, 4 overtime losses and two shootout losses.

The Road Runners jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead. At 5:03 former Bulldogs forward Jarret Stoll scored his 10th goal of the season, as he had a breakaway and fired a perfect snap shot past the glove hand of Dan Ellis. Then at 14:47, rookie Kyle Brodziak took advantage of a Bulldogs turnover, grabbed the puck in the slot and wired a slap shot for his second goal.

The Bulldogs would get on the scoreboard at 10:52 of the second period when Jason Ward erased a ten-game scoring drought. Ward scored by collecting a rebound in the crease and firing the puck into an open Road Runners goal.

Before the end of the period, Toby Petersen scored on the power play at 12:20 to give the Road Runners a 3-1 lead.

The Bulldogs would add one more goal with just 2:26 remaining in the third period. Steve Ott extended his goal-scoring streak to a Bulldogs season high four-games by earning his sixth goal of the season. Michael Lambert picked up the lone assist on the play.

In goal, Bulldogs goaltender Dan Ellis took the loss, despite making 27 saves. Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers stopped 23 shots and earned his fourth victory of the season.

Bulldogs Note: Goaltender Olivier Michaud has been reassigned to the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the ECHL. Michaud backed up Yann Danis for games against the Manitoba Moose on Dec. 17 and 18 in Winnipeg, and the Road Runners on Dec. 20 in Edmonton.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next action will take place on Monday, December 27th when the Bulldogs host the Edmonton Road Runners at Copps Coliseum. The Bulldogs will be honouring Hamilton native and Stanley Cup Champion Dave Andreychuk at this contest.
