Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Denis Hamel equaled the Binghamton Senators' high-water mark for goals in a season with his 39th tally early in the second period, and then scored three more in a 7-4 Senators victory at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Wednesday.
Norfolk took an early 2-0 lead and the Sens trailed 3-1 in the second period before scoring six straight on the Admirals.
Wingers Brandon Bochenski (2 goals, 3 assists) and Denis Hamel (4 goals, 1 assist) both had five points for Binghamton while center Steve Martins added an AHL career-high four points (1 goal, 3 assists).
Hamel, the B-Sens captain, set a new AHL career high for points and goals in a game on the same night that he tied former defenseman Christoph Schubert for the most regular season games played in franchise history (216) and easily surpassed the franchise record for goals in a season (39) that he established last year.
Kelly Guard started in net for a third straight game and blocked 36 of Norfolk's 40 shots. Corey Crawford made 31 saves for the Admirals who returned to Virginia after the final game of a franchise-record 11-game road trip.
The Senators power play scored for a seventh straight game. Binghamton scored on three of nine chances while Norfolk was shutout in seven opportunities.
Binghamton now hits the road for a swing through New England beginning with a game on Friday night in Manchester, New Hampshire. Game time on Friday is 7:35 p.m. with Grady Whittenburg hitting the airwaves on 680 WINR-AM at 7:05 p.m.
