Norfolk Admirals News Release
The Admirals concluded their eleven-game road trip with a loss on Wednesday night, as Denis Hamel scored four goals to lead the Senators past Norfolk 7-4 in Binghamton.
Norfolk took a 1-0 lead just 1:46 into the game. James Wisniewski sent a slap shot from the right point that was deflected past goaltender Kelly Guard by a Binghamton defender. The Admirals doubled their lead on a smart passing play with less than four minutes remaining in the period. Steve Munn sent a long pass from the neutral zone to Milan Bartovic at the blueline. Bartovic skated along the boards to the mid-point of the attacking zone, stopped and dropped a pass to a waiting Jason Morgan in the slot. Morgan beat Guard top shelf with a snap shot at 16:43. The Admirals had a two-goal lead after twenty minutes.
Hamel cut the Admirals' lead in half just 1:06 into the second period, scoring just after a face-off with a slap shot from the top of the right circle. Martin St. Pierre tallied off a snap shot from the top of the right circle to make it 3-1 Norfolk at 4:23. However, Binghamton charged back to tie the game before the end of the period. Brandon Bochenski buried a wrist shot five-hole on the power play at 8:45. Then, an Admirals' turnover while on the power play led to a shorthanded breakaway for Steve Martins. The Senators' center handcuffed Admirals' netminder Corey Crawford with a top-shelf wrister at 10:27. The teams headed into the locker room tied 3-3 at the end of two periods.
Bochenski gave Binghamton the lead 4:03 into the third period with a wrister from the right circle. The Senators extended their lead to four goals on three straight markers by Hamel. The Binghamton captain scored on a partial breakaway on the power play at 6:42. He completed the hat trick with a five-on-three power play goal at 8:58. Hamel then added a fourth goal off a turnover at 16:39. Carl Corazzini answered the six straight Senators' goals at 18:08, but it would not be enough as the Admirals fell 7-4 to the Senators.
Corey Crawford was saddled with the loss and made 31 saves. Kelly Guard picked up the victory making 36 saves.
Norfolk was 0-7 on the power play. Bridgeport was 3-9.
