January 12, 2008 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Ohio Junior Blue Jackets News Release
Columbus, OH. - Ohio forward Tim Hall registered his second hat-trick as a Junior Blue Jacket and the club scored four goals on special teams as the Junior Jackets defeated the Sioux Falls Stampede 5-2 Saturday at Nationwide Arena, completing the weekend sweep.
Hall opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game. During a Stampede (14-12-5, 33 pts.) power play, Ohio defenseman Greg Pateryn attempted to clear and the puck squirted past the Sioux Falls defenseman as Hall chased after it. Hall went in on net, stopped and put the puck top shelf past Stampede goaltender Max Strang for the shorthanded goal. The Jackets (8-16-5, 23 pts.) extended the lead to 2-0 when forward Derek Roehl scored the first of his two of the game, a power-play goal with under a minute remaining in the period.
The Jackets pushed their lead to 4-0, as Hall netted his seventh and eighth goals of the season on the power-play in the second and third periods, completing the hat-trick. It was the first hat-trick for the Jackets since Roehl completed one in a 4-3 win Apr. 13 vs. Chicago at Nationwide Arena. The Stampede came back with two unanswered goals 71 seconds apart by forwards Marc Rodriguez and David Grun to cut the lead to 4-2, but Roehl's second of the contest, an empty-netter, secured the fourth straight win for Ohio, a franchise record.
Ohio finished the game 3-for-8 on the power play, finishing 6-for-14 in the weekend series, as Sioux Falls did not convert any of its five opportunities in the contest. Junior Jackets goaltender Pasquale Terrazzano made 33 saves on 35 shots in the win, while his counterpart, Strang, turned away 21 of 25 shots.
Ohio will travel to Tri-City to play the Storm on Friday and Saturday. Game times are set for 8:05 p.m.
