Keystone Ice Miners News Release

SOLDOTNA, AK - For the fourth time in seven games, the Ice Miners saw a 1-0 final score. For the second time in those four, they were victorious. Garrett Hallford's 2nd period goal was all that Keystone needed to pick up a 1-0 win on Friday night at Soldotna Sports Center in Kenai River, as Nick Kossoff did the rest.

Kenai River came out of the gate with the better chances and Joseph Kaszupski was awarded a penalty shot at 10:20 of the first period, but Kossoff held his ground and made the save. Neither team scored in the first period, the fifth consecutive Ice Miners game with a 0-0 score through one.

Hallford scored a weird one in the 2nd period when Alex Achibald dumped a long shot in on Kenai goaltender Evan Hauser who could not hold onto the puck, and Hallford tapped it past him. It was Hallford's fifth goal of the season and first since returning from Muskegon of the USHL. Archibald was credited with the only assist. Nick Kossoff didn't need any more help as he made 22 saves for his 12th win and 6th shutout. The six shutout tie Kossoff for the NAHL lead in thet category.

Soo picked up a point with an overtime loss to Springfield, so they remain one point ahead of Keystone for 2nd place in the North Division, with the Ice Miners holding one game in hand. The magic number for Keystone to clinch a playoff spot is 5. The Ice Miners will go for the season sweep of the Brown Bears on Saturday night at 11:30 PM ET. The game will be broadcast on FASTHockey.com with live updates throughout on Twitter @keystoneminers.
