HALIFAX, N.S. - The Halifax Hurricanes have announced their roster to start the 2018-19 National Basketball League of Canada season.

The Hurricanes are full of fresh faces this year among three returning players in Tyrone Watson, Mike Poole and Cliff Clinkscales.

Hurricanes Head Coach Mike Leslie said his three veterans helped set the standard for winning during training camp with his new young roster.

For Leslie, there's plenty to be excited about among the new additions.

One new addition is Joel Kindred, who will be making his NBLC debut this year. He averaged 13.5 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game his final season with NCAA DII school St. Augustine's College in North Carolina.

"Joel Kindred is a new player to our league ... but he brings a huge amount of athleticism and energy when he plays," said Leslie.

From Europe, Leslie has brought in Karamo Jawara from Bergen, Norway.

"[He's] a very good European player. He has a nice toolbox and skillset to play," said Leslie.

Leslie has said previously that the Hurricanes will look for more three-point shots this year. To answer that he's signed Jahmel Taylor, over his NCAA Division 1 career, shot better than 40 per cent from the beyond the three-point line for the Washington Huskies and the Fresno State Bulldogs.

A new Canadian addition to the Hurricanes is Malcolm Duvivier from Toronto.

"[He's] been a very pleasant surprise for us. He's a great scoring guard."

Duvivier played four years of NCAA Division 1 basketball for Oregon State and Akron, where he averaged 8.5 points per game, 2.2 assists and hit better that 36 per cent of his threes.

On the bench, Steven Brown returns as assistant coach and Leslie has also brought on new assistant coach Randy Sheen.

The Hurricanes open the season at Scotiabank Centre on Thursday, Nov. 15 against the Moncton Magic. The Hurricanes battled against their Moncton rival last year for Atlantic Division dominance in the playoffs.

The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office or online from TicketAtlantic.com/Events/Halifax-Hurricanes-Basketball.
