San Diego Riptide News Release
SAN DIEGO â David Hale will be resigning his position as director of public and media relations with the San Diego Riptide, effective Monday, June 28, 2004. Media and public relations questions and inquiries will be handled on an interim basis by team President John Tull.
Hale was hired as the director of public relations in January after working for the San Diego Gulls throughout the 2003-04 season. As director of public relations, Hale was responsible for team communications, producing all game materials for the media, facilitating player appearances and interviews, coordinating community events and maintaining the team's website. He also served as the color commentator for the Riptide's road games on World Talk Radio. He will be leaving the team in order to pursue his Masters degree at Syracuse University.
"This was a difficult decision but I feel that it is the right thing for me to do," said Hale. "I would like to thank the Riptide for giving me this opportunity. It's been a wonderful experience and I will look forward to continuing to follow the team as a fan."
"Dave has done an outstanding job with us," said Tull. "While he will be sorely missed, we wish him the best of luck at Syracuse."
Hale will remain with the team for this week's game against Bakersfield. Beginning Monday, however, media and community relations inquiries should be directed to Tull, who was named the Riptide's new team president in a press conference last week, until a full-time successor is named. Tull will be being assisted by Theresa Custodio, who had been serving as an intern in the team's public relations department for the last several months. Tull and Custodio can be reached by calling the Riptide offices at 858-404-0232.
The Riptide will be playing their first home game in five weeks this Saturday when they take on the first-place Bakersfield Blitz. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. with free Riptide ball caps going to the first 3,000 fans, courtesy of Sportsbook.com.
