
Albany Conquest freeze the Green Bay Blizzard, 59-26

Albany, N.Y., June 25, 2004 â The Albany Conquest kept their playoff chances alive by recording a 59-26 victory over the Green Bay Blizzard on Friday evening in an arenafootball2 game at Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y. The Albany Conquest improved to a 5-7 record, while Green Bay fell to 4-8.
WR/LB Jeff Higgins intercepted Green Bay QB Matt Runyan returning 18 yards for an Albany touchdown putting the Conquest ahead 13-7 with 11:35 remaining in the second quarter. Thomas Herron, playing fullback for the first time this season, scored his first career touchdown, a one-yard run that gave Albany a 20-7 advantage late in the second quarter. Herron carried the ball four times for 13 yards. The Conquest continued to receive strong running from Rashon Burns, carrying five times for 18 yards and his one-yard touchdown run early was Albany's first score of the game.
Albany QB D. Bryant was 17-of-27 passing for 174 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He threw TD passes to four different receivers. His first TD pass of the game came with just two seconds remaining in the first half as he hit Nick Anderson on a one-yard TD pass, Anderson's third receiving TD of the season. He also found Cy Butler, Tony Locke, and Jamie Ware on consecutive TD passes of 24, 37, and one-yard, respectively, all in the third quarter. Albany received a late third quarter TD from DS Travis Coleman, whose 27-yard interception return for a TD put Albany ahead 52-14 with 21 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Albany back-up QB Ralph Barone threw his first TD pass of his af2 career, a three-yard pass to Burns in the fourth quarter.
The Albany Conquest will have a much-needed bye next week before heading on the road to face the Green Bay Blizzard on July 9 in Green Bay, Wis. Albany' s next home game is against the Manchester Wolves at 7 p.m. on July 23 at Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y.
The Conquest announced at their game tonight that country music group, Montgomery Gentry, would perform a full concert following their July 23 game. Montgomery Gentry performs the No. 1 single, "If you ever stop loving me." Tickets will go on-sale on June 30 at 10 a.m. at the Pepsi Arena Box Office and will also be available by calling TicketMaster charge-by-phone at (518) 476-1000.
