Hagerstown Suns News Release

SUNS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER SATURDAY: In game one, Asheville used a three-run fifth frame to win 5-1. Hunter Stovall started the inning with an Asheville double. Will Golsan plated him with a single, followed by a Terrin Vulva RBI triple to push Asheville in front 4-1. Grant Lavigne capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to give the teams the final score. The Suns rallied for game two though. After Leif Strom surrendered a run in the top of the fourth, Hagerstown plated four runs to knock Riley Pint out of the game. The righty walked six batters in 0.2 innings of work and was saddled with four earned runs before exiting the game. Jackson Stoeckinger twirled a season-high three innings, allowing just one earned run to earn his first win of 2019 and Jhonatan German earned his second save of the season, working two scoreless frames in the 5-4 win.

THE POWER OF FIVE: Yesterday, both winners in the doubleheader scored five runs. The Suns also scored a season-high five runs in the first inning Thursday. Their previous season-high runs scored in a single inning was three.

QUALITY, BETTER THAN QUANTITY: In the current series, Hagerstown has scored 14 times on just 15 hits. Asheville has 23 hits but only 11 runs to show for it In yesterday's doubleheader, the Suns scored four times in the first inning of game two without collecting a hit. The Tourist's starter, Riley Pint, issued six walks in just 0.2 innings.

DESIGNATED HITS?: When Pablo O'Connor hit a double in the bottom of the third inning of game two of last night's doubleheader, it snapped a 33 at-bat stretch, where Suns DHs did not have an extra-base hit. This season, designated hitters are 6-for-35 (.171).

TWO FOR THE SHOW: Lara's three home runs have all come with two outs and the first two gave the Suns a one-run lead this year. The third baseman has six RBI on the three bombs and leads the team in the two categories. The righty played 115 games for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Midwest League in 2018 and hit five homers, so his production has sky-rocketed in the young season.

PAT'S BACK: Skipper Patrick Anderson is returning for his sixth season in the Hub City. Anderson has a franchise record 363 wins under his belt and has guided the suns to two playoff berths in his five seasons at the helm. The Maryland-native led the Suns to the 2014 South Atlantic League Championship game in his first season with the team. Prior to his time with Hagerstown, Anderson led the Gulf Coast Nationals to the team's best winning percentage in team history and a league championship.

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN: There are seven players who have played at least one game donning a Suns uniform on the Opening Day roster. Alastre and Cate in the rotation both finished last season in Hagerstown, while Jackson Stoeckinger and Jhonatan German both logged innings for Hagerstown in 2018 and will be coming out of the pen this season. Nic Perkins played one game for Hagerstown last season before getting injured and spending the rest of the season in Auburn and will return to the Suns this year. Finally, Juan Pascal and Canning are returning in the field for Hagerstown. Both played in more than 10 games for Hagerstown last year.
